Shredded Society

Recently, I was on vacation and I found myself being bombarded by negative thinking...oftentimes just quick thoughts about somone or something, and I began to grow tired of it. I then decided it had become a pattern, and it was time to make improvements to myself because negative thoughts do no harm to others, just thyself.

I decided I would force myself to do work anytime I had a negative thought. I would do 20 pushups if I had a negative thought about someone. Throughout the day, I completed many pushups, and then began to have less and less negative thoughts. You see, like auto-pilot, negative thinking can begin to just take over, as negativity is ubiquitous in our society --the news and well, other humans do a good job and proving this to be true. I also decided this would be the way to deal with negative thinking. If the day fell on a day that I was working out my back in the gym, then I would substitue pullups, and this could become whatever, like squats, barbell curls and other options as well.

Then I realized, if everyone in society did this, we would have a fit society and hopefully a curtailment of negativity in society.

There is Nothing New Under the Sun!

Everything is a copy of something else --many things are a copy of a copy and on and on.... Take for instance, well...me, or yourself! We are a copy of the combined DNA of our parents. The firefighting skills that I have learned and use are a copy of someone else. This morning I taught jiu-jitsu, which is an emulation or copy of years of learning. Every song you have ever heard is the reapperance of a few chords played thousands of times already.

Literally everything is a copy of something and someone else; so, take solace in that, and don't take life too seriously. Everything you do has been done before, so perhaps try to do whatever it is at your best while enjoying the process.

Embrace Manliness: Finding Joy in the Timeless

In a world constantly racing towards innovation and novelty, there's a timeless appeal in embracing the essence of manliness. It's about rediscovering the joy in traditions and recognizing that there truly is "nothing new under the sun." Let’s explore how this philosophy can enrich our lives today.

The Essence of Manliness

Manliness transcends trends; it’s rooted in enduring virtues like courage, integrity, and responsibility. These qualities have stood the test of time, reminding us that strength isn’t just physical—it’s mental and moral too. Embracing manliness means embodying these virtues in our daily lives.

Rediscovering Timeless Pleasures

In a culture obsessed with the latest gadgets and trends, finding joy in timeless activities can be refreshing. Whether it’s woodworking, fishing, or simply enjoying a good book, these pursuits connect us with traditions passed down through generations. They remind us that true satisfaction often lies in simplicity.

Embracing the Wisdom of the Ages

The saying "nothing new under the sun" reflects a profound truth: while technology evolves, human nature remains constant. Learning from the wisdom of the past—be it ancient philosophy or age-old proverbs—offers invaluable insights into navigating modern challenges with grace and wisdom.

Building Meaningful Connections

Manliness isn’t solitary; it thrives in community. Whether through mentorship, camaraderie, or simply sharing stories around a fire, meaningful connections enrich our lives. These bonds, forged through shared experiences and mutual respect, transcend time and circumstance.

Conclusion: Embracing Timelessness

In a fast-paced world, embracing manliness and the age-old wisdom that "there is nothing new under the sun" can be profoundly liberating. It’s about cherishing timeless virtues, finding joy in simple pleasures, and connecting with others on a deeper level. By doing so, we not only honor traditions but also cultivate a richer, more fulfilling life.

Join us in celebrating the essence of manliness and discovering the enduring beauty of what has always been. Because in a world of constant change, some things—like courage, integrity, and the joy of timeless pursuits—never go out of style.

Hang in There!

This is Your Opportunity! Do Not Squander It!

As a traveling Lieutenant, in the fire department, I have been privileged to work with some amazing people. I have also been able to learn about parts of the city that I had never seen before.

As of a few days ago, I was told that I would be working for a Captain that has been in the department for over 25 years, and he is well respected in our department. I was stoked when I heard the news and saw this as an excellent opportunity to learn and grow. Recently, I had envisioned and asked God to help me become a stronger and better fire officer, and now I have the chance to learn from one of the best.

We had a discussion this morning, and he asked me to be in charge of company training; I told him that was music to my ears, and I would be honored to run the training for our crew.

Ask and you shall recieve! This phenomenom (though I believe it's simpler than that, as I believe God answers our prayers) occurs when you really believe that it is possible.

Harnessing the Law of Attraction in Firefighting: Strengthening Manliness and Mental Resilience

In the demanding world of firefighting, physical prowess and mental resilience are indispensable. However, there's another potent tool that often goes unnoticed: the Law of Attraction. This principle, rooted in the idea that positive thoughts bring positive outcomes, can significantly enhance both personal well-being and professional effectiveness in firefighting.

Understanding the Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction suggests that our thoughts and emotions have a direct impact on the reality we experience. In firefighting, maintaining a positive mindset amid adversity can be transformative. By focusing on desired outcomes—such as successful rescue missions, team cohesion, and personal growth—firefighters can cultivate a mental environment conducive to achieving these goals.

Applying the Law of Attraction in Firefighting

  1. Visualization Techniques: Before heading into action, firefighters can visualize successful outcomes. This mental rehearsal not only prepares them for challenges but also primes their minds to attract positive results.

  2. Affirmations: Encouraging affirmations can bolster confidence and resilience. Phrases like "I am capable and strong," "I trust my team," and "I handle emergencies with calm and precision" can reinforce a mindset of competence and courage.

  3. Gratitude Practices: Amid the intensity of firefighting, gratitude can be a powerful tool. Acknowledging moments of teamwork, successful interventions, and personal growth fosters a positive outlook and attracts more of these experiences.

  4. Mindful Action: Being mindful of thoughts and emotions during operations is crucial. By consciously choosing to focus on solutions rather than problems, firefighters can steer their experiences toward favorable outcomes.

Strengthening Manliness through Positive Thinking

In traditional terms, manliness encompasses strength, courage, and resilience. By integrating the Law of Attraction into firefighting practices, firefighters can redefine and enhance these qualities:

  • Strength: Beyond physical prowess, mental strength becomes a cornerstone. Positive thinking nurtures mental fortitude, enabling firefighters to tackle challenges with determination.

  • Courage: The courage to face danger is amplified by a belief in one's capabilities and a positive outlook on the outcome. This self-assurance is a powerful motivator in high-pressure situations.

  • Resilience: Adversity is inevitable in firefighting, but resilience can be cultivated. By maintaining a resilient mindset through the Law of Attraction, firefighters bounce back stronger from setbacks and remain effective in their duties.

The Law of Attraction isn't just a philosophical concept—it's a practical tool that can elevate firefighting practices and enhance personal well-being. By harnessing positive thoughts and emotions, firefighters not only improve their effectiveness in the field but also strengthen their inner resilience and sense of manliness. Embracing this mindset fosters a culture of excellence and positivity within firefighting communities, ultimately contributing to safer communities and empowered individuals.

Mindset is Everything

This morning, I had a conversation with a co-worker about mindset. She was saying how being busy (We are at a busy station) and the constant lack of sleep was becoming difficult for her. I told her how I used to leave the station angry because of all the unnecessary calls we took overnight, oftentimes waking us up multiple times overnight.

I had just come back to this busy staiton as a Fire Lieutenant, but I had been at this station about six years ago and it was hard for me back then. During this conversation I shared with her how we hadn't slept much last night, and I was still in a great mood. Between 2018 (which is why I was inspired to share this discovery in Faith Over Fear) and well...now, I have been on a mindset journey. I no longer rob from my family when I am home, by being angry and moody after work. I have been able to put the work day behind me and be present and joyful when I am home from a busy night at the fire station.

Today, I was coming off working 72 hrs straight, and I was in a great mood. I told her even though I was on extremely low sleep, I had set my alarm for six and completed a workout, including lifting weights. I explained that this brought the power back to me, and gave me total control over my day.

You see, you cannot control all the non-emergency calls that disrupt your sleep, during your 24 shift, but you can start the day in control and leave with a good attitude. I shared that, basically a good workout and plenty of coffee was the secret to my success. I said that she could chose to try that, or perhaps begin her day by listening to her favorite music, podcast or by reading a good book. I did mention reading self help books as well, as part of my mindset training. As I am writing this, I have had a wonderful day at home. My wife and I took the boat our for a few hours; we watched a storm roll in. I played with my two dogs and hung out with my sons. It has been a amazing day.

I hope you continue to find amazement in yours. Reach out if you are struggling and need someone to talk to.

Merry Christmas and Love to All!

Brothers...first off congratulations on being you and being a part of this wonderful universe.

Fellas, listen up! I'm tired of hearing about guys doing stupid shit and making bad, life altering, decisions. We need to be in this together and be there to help lift each other up. If you need a bro, reach out. If you don't have any trusted brothers in your life, make it a priority to get some. Join a club, gym, group...something. You are never alone; there are still good people out there --seek them out.

Until next time, be well and I love you.
--Rob

Avoid the extremes!

There is a sweet spot in everything, and a balance that must be respected. I have seen so many good and motivated people wash out because of unrealistic goal setting and because they follow the gurus who make it seem impossible to succeed without extreme sacrifice. Don't get me wrong, I was up working at 4 am yesterday while most people were sleeping, but again I too must seek balance.

To be driven, motivated and inspired is good, but life is a game of balance. If you get it right, your feedback will be postive. Get it wrong and lessons will be learned. If you go all in, be warned, the seas of the the extremely ambitious are awash with sacrifice and failure.

Hold the belief that you can do anything you want, but be willing to stay motivated even when the novelty has long faded. If you can weather and silence the voice that encourages you to quit and do something less demanding, the prize that awaits you will be worth way more than you ever imagined.

Good luck and keep seeking the better you!

What You See is What You Get!

There is nothing new under the Sun! It's literally all been done before, but the best part is you get to choose your life story.

Do you want to be wealthy? Do you want to learn an instrument? The universe is a catalog of choices, and you get to choose anything you want. You just have to believe you can have it.

If you are afraid to fail or afraid to try whatever it is you want to do, then you may never achieve that thing. But again, that's part of your journey.

As for me, I'm just getting started and I'll always choose Faith Over Fear.
All I see is abundance, and am excited for the next phase of my journey.
Good luck on yours.

Lightening In a Bottle!

The earliest mention I could trace the idea of lightening in a bottle was to Ben Franklin...in 1752 to be exact. Prior to that century, it was believed that ringing church bells chased away lightening. Many bells bore the engraving Fulgura Frango, which translates to I chase or break up lightening. Naturally this led to many deaths amongst the bell ringers.

In modern times, we use this statement to denote the flash of something ephemeral or fleeting, like a stroke of luck or a good idea.
Often these thoughts are quick so once they've registered in our conscious mind, as quickly as they've come into our awareness, they leave it.

knowing this, if you are attempting to find your next great idea or take the next step in your life, write these ideas down or record them somehow when the lightening strikes in your mind. Ideas are like currency, and you never know when the next big idea that is meant to enhance the world, may come from you.

Today is Another Day to Get it Right!

Quite often for those who are thinkers, there is a storm in our own heads because of the polarity in everything: hot and cold, darkness and light, good and evil, just to pool a few examples.  The interesting thing is Evil is live spelled backwards, meaning like most religious or "hidden" symbols, it's an inversion of something innocent or innocuous.

You can see how arriving at this destination can cause one to wonder, "What does it all mean?" or "why is there two sides to every coin?"
Such is the conundrum and quest of life. We all have the choice to allow our lives to become so busy that we never spend any time searching for real meaning, or we can begin to question everything! But despite most people's beliefs, we do have that choice.

If you choose to begin your journey to knowledge there will be moments of frustration because there is a force in the world that favors and encourages ignorance. Know this, accept it, and keep moving forward. There will be sunlight amongst the clouds, but you will never experience it if you don't begin the journey.

Good luck to you on your quest.

We are capable of so much more.

Most of my life I have heard that we only use five to ten percent of our brains, but this goes against nature. In nature, nothing is wasted (though it does take the body time to realize this ie. wisdom teeth), so why would man be carrying around a lump of neurons that was ninety percent unneeded, especially in one of the most important organs of the body? Did the creator not fancy man with a microcephalic head? Perhaps the real dilemma is how we use our brains, or don’t use them. According to author and brain & memory coach Jim Kwik (in his book Limitless), we do use 100% of our brains. It’s the only organ in the body that requires ten times it’s weight in energy supply to function correctly. His argument is we would not need so much energy to supply an organ that was functioning at a fraction of its capacity. I personally have seen many people appear drunk or altered because of a drop in their blood sugar. When their blood glucose drops below normal, they typically begin to loose cognitive function. quickly. Perhaps we believe we only use ten percent because studies have shown that when we are forced to learn about subjects that do not hold our interest, we are only capable of giving ten percent. I believe we haven’t even tapped into what humans are capable of. But spending the time learning about and doing things of interest is a great start. No matter what it is, if it interests you, go out and do it.
